Class 103(4) A conveyer train hauled by a locomotive or drawn by a drum and cable or endless chain and for use in opencast workings, sand-pits, &c. is composed of undercarriage units each comprising a pair of wheels mounted on an axle supporting a shaft a, Figs. 1, 3, carrying, through cradles q, Fig. 5, arcuate rungs e, said units being coupled together by ball-and-socket joints on the shafts a, so that the rungs form a support for a continuous trough-shaped carrier f of rubber for the material to be conveyed. The units of the train may be tilted to discharge the material by the engagement of the hubs i of the wheels with helicallytwisted, U-section rails k<SP>1</SP>, Fig. 13, disposed at the discharging position. The rungs are placed on the cradles and retained in position laterally by recessed members s which, however, permit rocking movement of the rungs at right-angles to the shaft. The cradles have king-pins p free to turn in holes o<SP>1</SP>, o<SP>11</SP> in the shafts. In a modification, the carrier is formed of sheet steel plates r, Fig. 7. supported by rungs t mounted on the shafts a. Each sheet, together with its rung, is tiltable about a pivot u to discharge the material by means of a roller v<SP>1</SP> carried by the sheet and its rung and adapted to ride on to a raised guide rail disposed at the discharging position. Other steel trough sections are described with an intermediate elastic trough-shaped overlap, with alternate trough sections in fish-scale manner, or with each alternate section extending beneath the ends of the two adjacent sections.
