815,460. Refrigerators. GENERAL MOTORS CORPORATION. Dec. 19, 1957 [Jan. 8, 1957], No. 39460/57. Class 29 A refrigerator has food storage and freezer compartments 24, 60 and associated evaporators 32, 64 situated outside the compartments in separate forced air circuits. Blower 42 draws air from the storage compartment and forces it over the evaporator 32 and the sensing element 125 of a thermostat controlling the compressor motor. Melt water leaves the compartment through orifice 46 and is led to a tray 54 in the machine compartment. A small heater 56 keeps the orifice 46 free of ice. The freezing evaporator rests on the liner 62 and is in contact with the false floor 66 of the compartment. Air is drawn through the evaporator by blower 70 and flows through a duct at the back of the freezing compartment where it is slightly warmed to lower the relative humidity before entering the compartment through orifices 80. The air leaves the compartment through orifices 90 communicating with a passage 92 leading to the evaporator. A heater 129 controlled by a time switch is secured to the freezer evaporator 64 for defrosting. Preferably the compartments have separate doors and the blowers may be caused to switch off when a door is opened. Operation of the blowers may be dependent on the operation of the compressor.
