Abstract
815,369. Shelling peas &c. MATHER & PLATT Ltd. Nov. 6, 1956 [Oct. 10, 1955; Oct. 22, 1955], Nos. 28765/55 and 30259/55. Class 6(3). A pea depodding machine comprises a series of revolving beaters mounted between a pair of moving members, one of which is perforated to allow the passage of separated peas therethrough. In the embodiment, Fig. 1, beaters q are mounted between revolving drums a and i, the outer drum a being formed of wire mesh so as to allow peas separated by the beaters q to fall on to a conveyer u for conveyance out of the machine. One beater is driven by means of a belt r from a power unit 16, and that beater in turn drives the rest by means of a belt p, the latter being so arranged that for the most part adjacent beaters rotate in opposite directions. Another beater also serves to drive a shaft d through a belt 23, the shaft d in turn being operatively connected to the drums a and i so as to rotate them both in a clockwise direction as seen in Fig. 1. At the inlet end of the machine the outer drum a is discontinued and the shafts x<SP>1</SP> are fitted with spiral blades in place of the beaters q, in order to feed the vines from the inlet into the annular space between the two drums. As shown in Fig. 4, the beaters may be mounted between two endless belts 6 and 7, the lower belt 7 being perforated to allow peas to fall therethrough on to the conveyer 8.
