Abstract

Sintered magnesia is obtained by mixing powdered natural magnesites with a solution of an iron salt of an organic acid and, after drying, baking the mixture at about 1600 DEG C. in an oxidizing atmosphere. Ferrous salts of acetic, lactic and citric acid are preferred. Examples refer to the addition to 100 kg. of powdered magnesite of (i) 33 kg. of a solution of a ferric lactate solution containing 6 per cent by weight of iron, (ii) 6.6 kg. of ferric citrate and (iii) 12.5 kg. of a ferrous acetate solution containing 8 per cent by weight of iron, respectively. After stirring and heating to dryness the masses were in each case sintered. Reference has been directed by the Comptroller to Specification 758,089.
