Abstract

801,569. Reciprocating pumps. REDEX, Ltd. [formerly WAYNE V. MYERS CO., Ltd.], and WARD J. C. Jan. 22, 1957 [Jan. 30, 1956], No. 2955/56. Class 102(1). [Also in Groups XVII and XVIII] mA container for liquid comprises a vertical metal tubular body 1 clamped between a base 3 and a cover 4, having one or more windows 28, 29 extending from near its top to near its bottom and having a close-fitting transparent plastic tubular lining 2 the ends of which are folded back over the top and bottom ends of the metal body. The ends of the tubular assembly 1, 2 are spigotted into the splayed base 3 and domed cover 4 at annular grooves 31, 32, the whole being tied together by vertical bolts 5, 6 passing through the container so that when their nuts are tightened a fluid-tight seal is provided by compression of the lining material 2 in the grooves 31, 32. A graduated scale 33 may be printed on the inside of the lining 2 visible through two of the windows. A pump and hose assembly similar to that described in Specification 613,265 is provided, as well as an inclined drain bore 21 adapted to receive the nozzle and a filler cap and opening. The pump piston rod 16 is surrounded by a helical compression spring arranged in a telescopic casing 18. In a modification (not show) an outer covering sleeve of synthetic plastic material is fitted over the outside of the tubular assembly 1, 2 and its ends folded back over the insides of the top and bottom of the assembly, or under those of the tubular lining 2. Again, the lining and outer sleeve may be replaced by a single sleeve of nearly twice their lengths which is doubled over. An adhesive sealing compound may be used in the grooves 31, 32 as an added precaution.
