Abstract
800,991. Ceramic-metal seals; two part couplings. PLESSEY CO., Ltd. Dec. 23, 1954 [Dec. 24, 1953], No. 35886/53. Classes 36 and 38 (1). In an electrical apparatus a composite body comprising insulating portions of alumina intimately bonded to conducting portions of molybdenum disilicide, which latter serves to seal the body to conductor members and/or the apparatus casing, is provided, and the apparatus includes a resilient element by which mechanical load is placed upon the body. A connector may comprise an alumina member 10 to which conductors 12 are sealed by molybdenum disilicide 11. The member 10 is sealed at 13 to a flexible metal annulus 14 brazed to a mounting shell 15. Alternatively, an alumina member 42 may be sealed by molybdenum disilicide 41 to shell 40 and to a corrugated conducting tube 43 which is brazed to conductor 44. A corrugated metal tube 46 is clamped to shell 40 and encloses washers 47 which support an insulator conductor 48 secured to conductor 44.
