Abstract

805,881. Tubular electric incandescent lamps; electric heating-lamps. GENERAL ELECTRIC CO. Sept. 16, 1955 [Sept. 17, 1954], No. 26607/55. Classes 39(2) and 39(3) A coiled filament or conductor extending axially within a tubular envelope 1, Fig. 1 (not shown), of an electric incandescent lamp or similar device, e.g. an infra-red ray generator, is provided intermediate its ends with at least one auxiliary support 6 consisting of a disc of refractory metal the periphery of which engages the inner wall of the envelope, the disc having a substantially radial slit 7 along which a part of the coil 2 is passed into a central aperture 13, the metal at the rim of the aperture being formed to engage within an adjacent coil whereby the disc is located on the coiled conductor and the conductor is located within the envelope. The part of the radial slit 7 at the periphery of the metal disc 6 may be formed into a notch 9 to facilitate the positioning of the coil. In locating the filament a coil is preferably passed through a radial slit in a metal disc, or in a metal strip from which the disc is subsequently made, and the disc or strip is then pierced by a pointed tool, preferably with a pyramidal point which is inserted through the coil and produces an aperture the metal rim of which is thus formed as a plurality of tongues 11 and rolled around within the adjacent coil of the conductor. Specification 754,616 is referred to.
