Abstract
791,163. Locking screws. MORGAN, H. R. Jan. 12, 1955 [Jan. 19, 1954], No. 1590/54. Class 89(1) A screw 1, Fig. 1, having a head 2 seated in a recess 3, is locked by a bar 4 engaging castellations 5 and flattened, eg. by a hammer-blow, to cause its pointed ends to engage the recess-wall. In another arrangement for a socket-head screw 8, Fig. 5, the bar 10 has an integral projection 11 to engage the socket. In a modification, the projection 21, Fig. 16, is bent out of the strip from which the bar 22 is made, and in a further modification, the projection is pressed from the strip. According to a further arrangement, the bar 30, Fig. 22, has its ends bent to trail in the screwing- home direction. After tightening, the ends are bent in the opposite direction by a tool 32 to engage the recess wall. For locking a screw-head having longitudinal ribs and grooves 14, 15, Fig. 11, on its periphery, the bar 16 has downwardly and inwardly-bent projections 17 which engage opposed grooves 15 and slide therealong when the bar is deformed, to dig its serrated ends 19 in the wall of the recess. Removal of the bar in all cases except Fig. 22, is effected by prising. In Fig. 22 the ends are reversely bent by the tool.
