Abstract
799,388. Steam irons. HOOVER, Ltd. Feb. 14, 1957 [March 20, 1956], No. 5109/57. Class 138 (2). A steam iron includes a flash boiler 15 and passages for delivering steam from the boiler to an opening 31 of substantial area in the sole plate from which steam is distributed through a porous steam distributer 30 which is preferably not substantially less in area than the sole plate. The distributer may be of sintered metal such as copper, aluminium or stainless steel. The distributer may, as shown, be covered by a thin stainless steel plate 35 having steam emission holes 36 therethrough or, in a modification (not shown), where the distributer is of stainless steel, its lower surface may be polished and form the ironing surface.
