Abstract

786,781. Batteries. ALKALINE BATTERIES, Ltd. Jan. 12, 1956 [Jan. 28, 1955], No. 2595/55. Class 53. An alkaline storage battery, Fig. 1, comprises a cylindrical steel container a, a tubular negative electrode b surrounding a positive electrode c and a cylindrical separator d between the electrodes. The negative electrode is built up of flat perforated steel closures e, Fig. 2, containing the active material and is a tight fit within the container a when pressure is applied to U-sectioned end clamping rings g. The positive active material is contained within a number of flat circular closures h of perforated nickel-plated sheet steel which are spaced apart by washers j. The flat closures h are suspended from a hollow terminal pillar n, the pillar having a removable cap r and lateral openings q by which electrolyte may be fed to the cell.
