Abstract
771,111. Laminated materials. UNITED KINGDOM ATOMIC ENERGY AUTHORITY. Oct. 19, 1946, No. 31135/46. Class 140. [Also in Group XL (a)] A nuclear reactor comprises layers or films of fissile material disposed between layers of moderator. The fissile material may be deposited as a carbide or oxide layer 16 between plates 15 of graphite, beryllia, or beryllium to provide a sandwich 2.5 to 5 mm. thick. The sandwiches may comprise hollow plates 21, Fig. 5, to provide a channel for the coolant. The sandwiches may contain thorium or uranium which may be impoverished in U<SP>235</SP>.
