Abstract

766,637. Valves. HOSKINS, S. W. May 28, 1954 [May 21, 1953], No. 14364/53. Class 135. A valve comprises an inlet 2, an outlet 3, a valve seat 7 in a chamber 5 for a valve 9 operated by a turnable but not axially movable member 24, 38, a valve spindle 12 between the valve and member 24 axially movable but not turnable and sealing means, e.g. the 0-rings 36, 37, associated with the spindle 12 preventing escape of fluid along the latter. The nut 24 carries ball bearings 25 and rotates between the top of a bonnet 15 and a cap 27 and screws over the spindle 12 connected by a pin 31 to the valve, the pin engaging slots 34 in the base of the bonnet to prevent rotation of the spindle. The 0-sealing rings are flexible and/or resilient and may roll in recesses in the spindle or the bonnet. In a modification the coned valve 9 is replaced by a disc and the spindle prevented from rotating by having a splined portion passing through a flat-sided hole in a washer located between the bonnet and member 24, while a separate valve seat is located over the outlet 6 by the lower end of the bonnet.
