Abstract

757,735. Sealing leaks in tanks &c. FELIX INDUSTRIES, Ltd., A. March 2, 1955 [Dec. 2, 1953], No. 33473/53. Class 69 (1). Leaks in tank &c. walls are sealed by adhesively securing a patch having one or more weep holes over the leak but leaving a space enclosed by the patch and the wall and closing the weep holes when the adhesive is dry. To seal a leak at a lap joint between plates A, B in a tank wall, Figs. 1 and 2, end blocks 1 having weep holes 5 are secured by adhesive to the joint on both sides of the leak and a curved former 2 is adhesively secured to the rounded surfaces of the blocks. A patch 3 is then placed over the former and fixed by adhesives to the plates A, B and a rigid backing plate 4 fastened to the patch on the plate B. When the adhesive is dry the weep holes are closed by tapered pegs. To seal a leak at a rivet, Fig. 3, a former 6 having a vent tube is secured by adhesive at 7 to the plate and a patch 8 and backing plate 9, which are both apertured to pass the vent tube, are also adhesively secured to the plate. When the adhesive is dry the vent tube is closed by a plug 11.
