Abstract
745,183. Rear lamps for cycles; battery lamps. LIZZIMORE, A. H. Sept. 6, 1954 [Sept. 7, 1953], No. 24695/53. Classes 39(2), 75(3) and 75(4). A lamp such as the rear lamp of a bicycle or a warning device comprises an elongated tubular casing 1 at least partly of one or more translucent or transparent coloured materials such as red synthetic resin and having at one end an aperture 4 inclined to the longitudinal axis of the casing and at the other end a transparent window 3 for directing beams of light therethrough from one or more electric light bulbs 14, 15 within the casing. In the embodiment shown the two lamps 14, 15 are screw-threaded into respective end portions 12, 13 of an electrically conducting U-shaped member 7 and locked in position by locking rings 16. Member 7 is secured to the inner surface of wall 5 of the hexagonal casing 1 by a bolt, washer and nut combination 8, 9, 10 the bolt adjustably passing through a slot 6 in the wall 5, the bolt also passing through a hole in the mudguard 22 to which it is secured by another washer and nut 23, 24. Electrical connection to the bulbs is made through two contact pieces 17 slidably mounted in an insulating sleeve 18 and pressed against the bulb contacts by a spring 19 to which an electrical conductor 20 is connected from a power source which may be a battery within the casing 1 or an external source. The bulbs may be provided with individual circuits by replacing the spring 19 by two end to end springs insulated from each other. The lamp is mounted on the mudguard with its aperture 4 horizontal. The spread of the two beams from the opertures is varied by adjusting the position of member 7 axially of the casing.
