A collapsible carton having double side walls has an inner base attached to the two opposite inner side walls and supported above the outer base by making these inner walls shorter than their corresponding outer walls. The carton is formed from a one piece blank having outer side and end walls 11, 18 foldable up about an outer base 10, the side walls having inner walls 20 of less depth foldably attached to them. One of the inner walls 20 has the inner base 25 foldably secured to it, the inner base 25 being of less length than the outer base 10 to enable locking flaps 19 extending from the end walls 18 to fold over and tuck in between the edges of the inner base 25 and the end walls 18 and at the same time to enclose side tabs 13, 21 on the ends of the side walls thereby holding the carton erect. An adhesive flap 27 along the outer edge of the inner base 25 is adapted to be attached to the opposite inner side wall 20 such as to form a tubular structure which may remain flat for packing and transport purposes prior to erection of the carton. Additionally the inner base 25 may be of less width than the outer base to facilitate the folding flat of the tubular structure when the inner base is connected to the opposite inner side wall, one double side wall being made shorter than the other. Alternatively instead of the tabs 13, gussets may be provided between the outer side walls and end walls. The carton may be used to slide in a shell. Specification 656,015 is referred to.
