Abstract
703,840. Positive clutches. BERRY, T., and BERRY, S. May 28, 1951 [May 24, 1950], No. 13047/50. Class 80 (2) [Also in Group V] A dispenser for ice cream, mashed potato &c. of the type comprising a bowl 1, a pivoted ejector 14 carried by a spindle 5 having a pinion 6 meshing with a rack 7 on a quadrant pivoted at 8 on a stem 2, includes a clutch mechanism for disengaging the ejector from the rack at will, whereby the ejector can be freely rotated independently of the rack not only within but also outside the bowl, and the ejector can be readily cleaned. The pinion 6 is freely rotatable on the spindle 5, except when it is clutched to the spindle by means of a sleeve 10 having a slot 25 in which engages a projection 12 on the pinion, this sleeve being connected to the spindle by key 15 and keyway 26. The sleeve is normally held up in the engaged position shown in Fig. 2 by a spring 16. To disengage the sleeve a cam 20 is turned so that its end 19 forces down sleeve 10 against the resistance of the spring, whereby the key 15 is disengaged from its keyway and the slot 25 from the projection 12. In normal circumstances each operation of the rack to dispense a portion of ice cream actuates the driving member 23 of a counting mechanism 3, by means of a projection 22 on sleeve 10, but when the sleeve is disengaged actuation of the rack will not affect the counter.
