703,762. Rectilinear-motion bearings. DEXTER & CO. (HIGH WYCOMBE), Ltd., and McVEY, G. Dec. 18, 1951 [Dec. 18, 1950], No. 30805/50. Addition to 655,961. Class 12(1) The invention relates to improvements or modifications of any of the inventions according to the parent Specification and Specifications 662,366, 665,579, 666,543. In the modification shown in Fig. 1, the members 20; 7a are recessed to locate helical compression springs 42 which apply lateral pressure to the parallel rods before the fixing bolts 95 are tightened. Alternatively, a spring or row of springs of C or U channel form, or of arched strip form, or in the form of one or more helical twist springs may be used to apply the lateral pressure. In other modifications helical tension springs are used, directly as shown in Fig. 5, or in conjunction with pivoted levers 71, 73 as shown in Figs. 6, 7. In a further modification an hydraulic or pneumatically expanded tube 80, Fig. 8, is disposed between members 54, 55. In the construction shown in Fig. 10, the inner carriers 89 are relatively adjusted by bolts 92 having screw threads of opposite hand engaging corresponding screw threads in the opposite faces of the carriers 89.
