Abstract
703,584. Couplings. COX, D. B. Jan. 16, 1952, No. 1303/52. Class 38 (1) [Also in Group XI] A heating element formed of metal foil 10 has secured to one surface a connecting element comprising a stronger flexible metal tab 14 to which a supply wire may be soldered. The tab has one end 17 tapering in the direction of current supply, the tapered part having inwardly-curved edges. The foil is embedded between insulating layers 11, 12 of flexible or rigid material. The foil is of zinc, tin, "Monel" (Registered Trade Mark), aluminium, nickel, stainless steel, or brass, and is less than 0.002 ins. thick, or if of lead or tin-coated lead or an alloy of lead with 1-4 per cent. of antimony or tin, is around 0.007 ins. thick, and melts if excess current passes. The tab 14 is of copper or brass 0.003 ins. thick and has curved edges, preferably with reverse or ogee curves, and may be tinned and fused to the foil element, the insulating layer being apertured at 19 to receive the supply wire 20. The tab may have several tapered ends.
