Abstract

692,237. Seats; bedsteads. LORENZ, A. July 11, 1951, No. 16405/51. Class 52(ii) An adjustable reclining chair &c. wherein pivotally connected links of a linkage arranged on a support include a seat, a downward extension of a back rest and lower and front connecting links and wherein a leg rest is swingable mounted on the front edge of the seat is characterized in that first guiding means is connected to the support and to either the seat or back rest and that a second guiding means is connected to the support and lower connecting link and that the leg rest is controlled by a controlling link pivoted to the leg rest and to controlling means swingably arranged on the support and pivoted to the downward back rest 34 is pivoted to the seat 32 at 40 and is provided with a downward extension 42 pivotally connected through slot 46 and pin 44 to the lower connecting link 48 which is pivotally connected at 56 to the front connecting link 54 connected at 58 to the seat 32. The first guiding means determined by the part 62, 66 of a lever 60, the part 62, 66 being pivoted at 62 to the support 30 and pivotally connected at 66 to the back rest extension 42. The second guiding means comprises a link 68 pivoted at 72 to the support 30 and at 70 to the lever connecting link 48. The part 86 of the lever 60 constitutes controlling means for the controlling link 80 pivotally connected to the leg rest 36 which is pivotally connected to the front edge of the seat 32. Arm-rests 90 are provided. Stops 74, 88 are provided on the support 30. In operation the chair is moved from the upright position shown in Fig. 1 to the semi-inclined position shown in Fig. 4 by a backward movement of the back rest 34. This causes a downward movement of the extension 42 under the control of the guiding link 62, 66 and this movement causes a swinging movement of the lower connecting link 48 about the pivot 70 of the second guiding link 68 which is kept against the stop 74 by the weight of the occupant. In addition, the movement of the lever 60 due to the moevment of the first guiding link moves the controlling link 80 and consequently the leg rest 36 to the position shown in which the controlling means 36 comes against the stop 88. Further movement to the fully inclined shown in Fig. 5 causes the extension 42 to swing about pivot 66 thereby moving the seat 32 to the position shown through the movements of the lower connecting link 48, front - connecting link 54 and second guiding link 68, the leg rest 36 remaining stationary due to the controlling means 86 being hard against the stop 88. To move the chair into final bed position shown in Fig.6 a latch 50 releases the pin 44 in slot 46 so that the back rest may move to substantial horizontal position, the seat 32 also to horizontal position by allowing the weight of the seat to swing the front and lower connecting links 54, 48 away from the leg rest which also is brought into the position shown. Spring clamps 102, 112 releasable by a handle 126, Fig. 7, are provided for locking rods 98, 108 for the back rest and leg rest respectively.
