Abstract
699,706. Fertilizer distributers. LONG, E. D. May 13, 1952 [May 28, 1951], No. 12495/51. Class 6(i) A fertilizer distributer comprises a plunger 5 which reciprocates vertically in a hopper 1 to disturb the material and allow it to flow intermittently between the sides of an opening and the plunger and a stirrer in the form of a shaft 24, driven by the means operating to reciprocate the plunger, and provided with paddles 25. As shown the plunger is reciprocated by cams 12 mounted on a shaft 11 and each operating in a box-like frame 8 which supports the plunger and moves between guides 10 in the walls 7 of the opening. The weight of the fertilizer is taken by hinged adjustable members 19. The material is also stirred by projections 23 which may be provided with extensions 21 and which project into the material. In a modification the plunger reciprocates in the hopper and is driven by a piston from gearing driven together with the paddle shaft from a shaft to which may be fitted land-wheels. In a further modification the plunger may comprise a knife-like member and the rotary agitator may comprise a shaft fitted with arms ex-. tending in various longitudinal directions. The distributer may be used with a seed sower or adapted to be secured to the back of a trailer when the mechanism is driven from the rear wheels of the trailer. The distributer may be attached to the rear of a lorry and a shoot may be provided between the hopper and the lorry to refill the hopper. The distributer may replace the drop back board of a lorry.
