Abstract

681,160. Coating webs. MOLINS MACHINE CO., Ltd. (Gooch, C. W.). May 26, 1950. [June 3, 1949] No. 14987/49. Class 140. A device for applying a line of adhesive to a moving web of paper comprises a nozzle within the bore of which a pin rotates continuously during the operation of the device, the bore and pin being of such relative dimensions and the end of the pin terminating sufficiently close to the end of the bore that the adhesive is applied as a thin tubular stream. The pin 24 extends from a shaft 21 attached to a rotor 20 keyed into a member 3 which is provided with a flange 4 serving as a journal and a portion 17 provided with straight or spiral grooves or a screw thread for milling the adhesive. An extension. 6 of the member 3 is provided for attachment to suitable driving gears or flexible drive shaft 7, a shaftseal 9 being provided. Adhesive is supplied to the nozzle from a flexible supply pipe 16 through a channel 12 controlled by a tap 13, and is milled by the threaded portion 17 and also by grooves cut on the flat face of the rotor 20. The nozzle is mounted for lateral and vertical movement with arrangements for fine adjustment. A wire 32 attached to one end to a cam 33 mounted on the tap 13 being provided to cut off the suppy of adhesive and to raise the nozzle away from the paper 35. The nozzle may also be pivoted about 29, a handle 36 being provided to facilitate this.
