Abstract
Potassium chloride is extracted from underground deposits containing potassium and sodium chloride by introducing into the deposit an aqueous liquor which dissolves more potassium chloride than sodium chloride under the conditions existing in the deposit, withdrawing the resulting potassium chloride-enriched liquor and crystallizing potassium chloride therefrom. The molten liquor resulting from the potassium chloride crystallization may be used to dissolve further salt after being heated, for example to 40-70 DEG C. The liquor is preferably passed down the annulus between two concentric tubes, the enriched liquor passing up through the inner tubes.
