Abstract

673,316. Dielectric heating. WESTING- HOUSE ELECTRIC INTERNATIONAL CO. Aug. 4, 1950 [Aug. 10, 1949], No. 19543/50. Class 39(iii) An elongated tunnel-like work receiving space has its side walls of insulating material and includes an upper electrode defining, or adjacent to, the top of the space and a lower electrode along the bottom thereof, the space being such that moisture from the treated material is confined to a path adjacent the exposed surfaces of the material and is caused to sweep over such surfaces. In Fig. 1 the space comprises a rubber member 18, and the work 2 is carried on an endless belt conveyer 4 adjacent a lower electrode 12. The upper electrode 14 is supported by insulators 16 and is fed by a cable 28. Work supporting side belts 42, Fig. 3, may be provided, and the tunnel ends may include detachable end flaps for controlling the escape of moisture. Alternatively, Fig. 5, the tunnel is constituted by an upper electrode 72 and side walls 78, 80 of rubber sheeting.
