Abstract

661,036. Aerials. BRITISH THOMSONHOUSTON CO., Ltd., BROWN, L. W., and TAYLOR, H. B. Dec. 6, 1949 [Dec. 10, 1948], No. 32015/48. Class 40 (vii). A dielectric rod antenna 2 energized from a waveguide 1 is terminated in a surface 4, 5, wholly or in part, other than normal to the axis of the guide and asymmetric, thereby offsetting the antenna beam by a small angle. Since the projecting portion of the antenna is symmetrical it may be rotated without introducing unbalance forces, and as such may be employed with a parabolic reflector to produce a conical scan. The termination of the rod within the guide at an angle can be arranged to produce an impedance match. The invention is applicable to antennas of rectangular and circular crosssection.
