657,662. Moulding welding-electrode parts. ELIN. AKT.-GES. FUR ELEKTRISCHE INDUSTRIE. Dec. 16, 1947, No. 29213/49. Divided out of 657,619, [Group XXII]. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group XXII] Shaped coating pieces used for building up an arc welding electrode coating are produced to final size by punching, casting, pressing or by cutting, breaking, sawing, &c. a continuous cast or extruded bar. The pieces may be used in short lengths as from a magazine or connected in strings by pasting or mechanically securing, e.g. by wire clips to a lace, tape or wire, e.g. of asbestos, glass-silk, &c. In one form the backing tape 5 &c. is combined with the continuous bar 9 during its extrusion from a press 2 a lateral entry 8 being provided for the tape 5 prestretched by a spring 7 and drawn through the extrusion nozzle 4 at the same speed as the flux material by a winding drum 10. A bladed cutter 13 is provided by incising the pasty bar 15 on its way to a drying drum 11 and after drying it is broken into short pieces adhering to the tape by winding it tape inwards on a small radius drum 12. The press may have a plurality of entries and nozzles.
