Abstract

An alloy which is suitable for addition to cast iron, for the production of nodular graphite therein, has the following composition: Mg 4.0-30.0 per cent; C 1.3-2.5 per cent; Si 0-5.0 per cent; Fe 0-20.0 per cent; Co 0-40.0 per cent; Mn 0-40.0 per cent; Cu 0-15.0 per cent; Mo 0-5.0 per cent; Cr 0-5.0 per cent; Al 0-5.0 per cent; Ni which is at least 40.0 per cent forming the remainder. The alloy may be made by introducing magnesium into a melt of nickel and carbon. Specification 630,070 is referred to.
