Abstract
637,560. Coating wires. PANNELL, W. M., and. PYE, Ltd. Nov. 29, 1947, No. 31622. [Class 140] [Also in Group XXXVI] The strands of an electric conductor are bound together by immersing the conductor in a bath of molten wax maintained at a temperature substantially above the melting point of the wax so that the wire strands are heated, then withdrawing the conductor from the bath and removing excess molten wax therefrom so as to leave only a residual film of wax on the strands, the conductor being finally cooled to solidify the wax film. The uncoated wire 13 is drawn off a supply reel 20, the speed of which is restricted by a brake 28, and is fed around pulleys 22, 25, the latter being situated in the bath 14. The downward pull on arm 16 supporting reel 20 and pulley 22 is countered by a weight 24 and a spring 27. The coated wire 13a is drawn through a heated wiping device 15 to remove excess molten wax which runs back into the bath, and is wound on a reel 26 after being allowed to cool in the air.
