Abstract

616,405. Centrifugal pumps; stuffing-boxes. AKTIEBOLAGET SEPARATOR. Sept. 4, 1946, No. 26596. Convention date, Sept. 15, 1945. [Classes 110 (i) and 122 (v)] [Also in Group II] In a centrifugal separator, the lighter liquid passes down a channel 6, in the bowl spindle, to a centrifugal pump 10. Sealing fluid enters a space between diaphragms 24, 26. Rubbing rings 21, on the pump rotor, and 23 on a diaphragm 24 prevent leakage from the pump casing to a bearing 3. Guide vanes 16 convert the kinetic energy of the liquid entering the pump casing into pressure energy to counteract leakage through a labyrinth 20 into the casing. Fig. 4 shows means to seal the paring chamber 13. Discs 46, 59 are contained within chambers 60, 61. Sealing liquid enters through a channel 64 and is thrown towards the periphery of the disc 59 by vanes on the cover 63 and flows over the inner edge of the bottom 62 down into the chamber 60-which is similar to chamber 61. The space between the discs 46, 59 communicates with the atmosphere.
