Abstract

581,836. Feeding and registering webs. HALL & KAY, Ltd., KAY H., and HALL, S. May 2, 1945, No. 11057. [Class 100 (i)] A web of paper is guided into the nip of a pair of the rollers of a calendering machine by a blast of air which passes from a fan 7 to an air-distributing box 6 provided with a controlling damper 9 and with an outlet 8 from which the air passes over a hinged guide plate 10. To prevent improper deflection of the web due to rebound of air from the rollers, the lower part of the plate 10 is formed with perforations 13 which are controllable by a hinged regulator 14. A perforated grid 16 is fitted at the bottom of the plate 10. To ensure an even blast the box 6 is fitted with curved vertical divisions 17, and the outlet passages are fitted with vertical baffles 19 of channel section which subdivide the outlet 8 into a series of passages. In a modification the air distributing box 6 is arranged horizontally, and the form of the guide plate 10 made straight instead of curved.
