Abstract

584,392. Magnetic separators. PHILIPS LAMPS, Ltd., and ETHERINGTON, R. A. July 14, 1944, No. 13485. Addition to 527,771. [Class 72] In the magnetic separator described in the parent Specification, the magnet assembly comprises magnets 15 arranged between poles 16, 17 and enclosed in a sheath 19 the whole being supported on a disk 14 and contained in a sleeve 7 which is carried by a ring 5 secured by bolts 6 to the upper part of the housing 1 having inlet and outlet sockets 2, 3. The pole pieces 13 constructed in accordance with the parent Specification are arranged between auxiliary pole plates 9, 10 having a series of spaced projections 11, 12 so as to leave channels for the flow of liquid entering by the inlet 2. The lower end of the sleeve 7 is closed by a cup 8 and the whole magnet assembly may be removed through an opening covered by a removable plate 21 by means of a ring 20. The magnetic particles adhering to the pole pieces 13 are then removed by flushing them with water, through the inlet 2, the liquid leaving the casing 1 by the socket 4, normally closed by a plug, or through a valve if such is provided.
