Abstract

570,970. Pipe-laying-machines. CLARK. P. F. and WORTHINGTON, G. D. Sept. 22, 1943, No. 15548. [Class 6 (i)] [Also in Groups X, XXXVI, and XXXVIII] Conduits are formed in situ by liquid setting material introduced, into a channel in course of formation concurrently with a collapsible core which is withdrawn when the material has set. A chain is inserted in the core and connected to the ends of the core so as to weight the core down to the bottom of the channel. The core consists of a rubber or rubberised fabric tube, inflated with air, gas or water and deflated when it is to be withdrawn. The core is led over a roller 9 to a guide 8 between side cheeks 11, forming mould boards for the plough 3, 4. An auxiliary guide 12 forces the core to the bottom of the channel. The plough is carried by a chassis 2 connected by a link 17 to a carriage 18, which carries a container 20 with pipes 22, 23 leading to a delivery pipe 24. The material is agitated by a stirrer 21, having buckets 26 to lift the material to an upper well 25. The stirrer has a shaft 28 connected by belts 30, 34 to a friction wheel 39 in contact with the endless track 40, wheel 39 being carried by a pivotal frame 38 with adjusting screw 41. The Provisional Specification states that by the use of suitable guides two or more cores can be laid simultaneously in spaced relationship to produce a multi-way duct or conduit.
