[Class 44] In a slider-operated fastening the stringer tapes or flexible supports on which the fastener members are mounted are secured by an adhesive to the articles to which the fastening is applied, either permanently or as a preliminary step followed by sewing, riveting or other means. The tapes may be coated or impregnated with suitable adhesive which may become tacky or tackier under heat, in which case the tapes may be secured by heat and pressure, as by ironing. A glue having cellulose acetate or similar plastic as a basis is mentioned. As a modification, instead of being coated or impregnated, threads of plastic material becoming tacky on heating may be interwoven in the tape. Alternatively, adhesive which is tacky when cold may be used, the tapes and articles being united by pressure. In this case, the tape may have a covering of paper, cloth or similar material which is removed before attachment. The invention is applicable to .fasteners in which the fastener elements have complementary means brought into and out of engagement by the slider and to fastenings in which the fastener elements are permanently and slidably mounted on adjacent edges of the tapes and are displaced along said edges by the slider.
