Abstract
576,981. Washing-machines. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. April 19, 1944, No. 7216. Convention date, April 21, 1943. [Class 138 (ii)] In a washing machine having a spinner basket 6 in which clothes may be centrifugally dried after washing, a stream of liquid from a nozzle 13 is directed on to a deflector which splashes it over the side walls and base of the basket immediately prior to drying. This clears the basket of suds, and prevents suds-lock during spinning. The deflector, in the construction shown, is an annular flange 20 at he base of an upper section 3 of the outer casing. The machine is filled with water by opening a valve 14 connecting the nozzle 13 with a supply pipe 12, the water passing to the bottom of the casing from which it is immediately withdrawn by a pump 15 and passed by way of a nozzle 18 to the basket. When the basket is full, surplus water passes out through overflow apertures 7 back to the bottom of the casing, so that a float 21 lifts to operate valve 14 to cut off the supply. A two-way valve 17 enables the dirty liquid to be pumped out by way of a discharge pipe 19 after drying.
