576,661. Endless-chain conveyers. SYNCRO MACHINE CO. Oct. 11, 1943, No. 16630. Convention date, Nov. 3, 1942. [Class 78 (i)] A machine for pulling cables through a processing machine comprises an endless chain, gripping devices comprising pairs of members slidably mounted on the chain to move transversely to it and means for forcing these members into position to grip the cable. The cross pins 9, Fig. 4, of the chain 8 carry jaws 10 which are forced apart by springs 11. The jaws are moved towards each other by the engagement of rollers 12 mounted on'them with rails 14. One of these rails is supported by members 15 which are slidably mounted in the side member 2 and are actuated through worm gearing 20, 18 and screw-and-nut mechanism 17 by a crank applied to the shaft 21, Fig. 1. The other rail is supported by the arms 23 of bell-crank levers which are pivoted at 25 to the other member 2. The arms 26 of these levers are bifurcated at their ends to embrace a shaft 27 which is slidably mounted in bearings 28 and is connected at one end by a coupling 100 to a threaded shaft 35. A nut 37 having teeth formed on its periphery is mounted on the shaft between a pair of bearing members 36 and is driven by a pinion 38 on the shaft 39. Sleeves 30 slidably mounted on the shaft 27 are forced by springs 31 into contact with the arms 26. The pressure exerted by the springs is varied by adjusting collars 32 which are threaded on the sleeves 33. Collars 29 are provided on the shaft for moving the arms 26 to the left to withdraw the rail 14. The correct position of each rail for any particular size of cable is indicated by pointers and scales 33, 34.
