Abstract

574,829. Boiler furnaces. DANKS OF NETHERTON, Ltd., and DALGLEISH, N. Feb. 18, 1944, No. 3084. Class 51 (i)] A furnace for an internally-flued boiler comprises a grate formed of firebars 1 oscillated in pairs to move the fuel, fed by a sprinkler 9, in counter-current to the flow of combustion gases towards an ashpit 5 at the front end of the furnace, pivoted vanes 11 being provided to control the supply of air to different parts of the grate. The ashpit 5 is sealed, either by a water tank 6 as shown or by a pair of pivoted gates. The vanes 11 in each zone of the grate are pivoted to lugs 12 and rest, at their lower ends, on a cross-shaft 13 carried on bell-cranks 14 pivoted on fixed pins 15, the bell-cranks being actuated to raise or lower the shaft 13 by adjusting a nut 17 on a spring-pressed rod 16.
