Abstract

562,997. Electric immersion heaters. ANNABLE, C. B. March 9, 1943, Nos. 3800 and 9405. [Class 64 (ii)] [Also in Groups XI and XXXVII] A thermostatically controlled electric immersion heater suitable for a kettle comprises a metal sheath 3 containing a coiled resistance wire or tape 2 bent into a loop the ends of which pass through a metal socket 4 in the wall of the kettle. One end of the resistance is connected to a contact pin 6, and the other to a similar pin 7 through a thermal switch. The contact 8 of the switch is carried by a spring blade 10 attached to a metal plate 11 secured to the pin 7, and the other contact 9 is carried by a metal plate 13 secured to an insulating plug 5, and connected to the resistance. A bimetallic strip 15 is housed in a metal tube 16 flattened at its outer end 16a to which the strip is brazed, the tube being brazed or welded to the metal sheath 3 at a re-entrant loop. An insulating ball 17 actuates the switch. The tube 16 may be of square section, and the strip 15 may be carried by a plug fitting its end.
