Abstract
569,336. Endless, tracks for vehicles. ROADLESS TRACTION, Ltd., and JOHNSON, P. H. May 7, 1940, No. 8215. [Class 79 (i)] An endless track of the " locked girder " type comprises links fabricated from separately made ground plates, side members, and roller path members secured together as by welding. In the construction shown there are two kinds of links A and B, each comprising a ground plate 1, side members 2 and roller paths 3 on which the load-carrying rollers (not shown) of the vehicle run. The ends of the roller paths 3 are formed as tongues 5 projecting through slots 6 in the side plates 2 and welded to the side plates at 4. The tongues constitute the abutments required to interlock with lugs 7 of adjacent links, these lugs being formed partly by the side plates 2 and partly by pieces 7<1> welded thereto. The roller paths 3 are located above the level of, the hinge pins and are supported by ribs 10, 11 welded to the ground plates, roller paths, and side plates at 12 and 13. The plates 2, 11 are bored at 9 for the hinge pins. The upper portions 14 of the side plates 2 are reinforced by blocks 14<1> welded thereto and serve as guides for the load rollers. The ground plates 1 extend beyond the side plates 2 and are turned up or rounded at 16 to facilitate steering. Rubber blocks 19 may be provided to minimize noise caused when the links interlock on straightening out. Modifications are described in which additional side plates are provided spaced slightly from the plates 2 and connected thereto by abutment plates and hinge pin bushes which span the plates and are welded thereto.
