Abstract

567,797. Watermarked cigarette paper &c. DENTON. J. R and ECUSTA PAPER CORPORATION. Dec. 9, 1942, No. 17541. [Class 96] To improve the opacity, porosity, tensile strength and speed of production of, e.g. cigarette paper, are used one or more dandy rolls 2 in a Fourdrinier paper-making machine, and, in addition, one or more reticulated rolls 1 for compressing the surface of the pulp web and forming a faint mesh pattern similar to and in addition to the ordinary watermark. The rolls may be positioned adjacent to suction boxes 5, 6 and may be rotated by the web on the wire-cloth 3 or may have separate power drive. A roll 1 comprises a series of spoked rings which may carry a coarse mesh cylindrical support for a fine woven wire covering, or the coarse support may be omitted. The dandy roll may be of similar structure, but with parallel fine wires to produce a laid effect.
