Abstract

566,517. Ventilators for vehicles. ASH & CO., Ltd., T., and LUDLOW, E. R. May 20, 1943, No. 8000. [Class 137] A vehicle ventilating unit comprises a casing 10 adapted to be mounted on the roof or side of the body with an air intake 17 at its forward end leading to a flanged opening 19 into the vehicle interior and with a louvred outlet 12 through which air is extracted by way of a passage leading from the interior through an opening 14 and isolated from the intake. Any water entering the casing drains off through a rear outlet 16 behind which is a baffle 16<1>. A shallow hood 18 surmounts the opening 19 in front of which a curved baffle 21 directs air on to two rear baffles 22 extending from opposite sides of the hood to a mid-point touching the opening flange. A diffuser such as a depending cup with a shuttered front opening may direct air forwardly into the vehicle. Or a sheet metal pressing with flanged openings aligning with openings 19, 14 may be mounted on the underside of the roof, the front opening having transverse louvres to direct air forwardly. The intake and extractor elements may be as described in Specifications 372,098 and 474,849 respectively.
