[Class 126] In a gas fire in which a part or the whole of the firebrick back a slopes in a rearward direction spaced overlapping silica sheets or strips h of silica are provided above the upper part of the inclined surface to allow the egress of hot gases while preventing dust and chimney debris from penetrating to the luminous flame burners c. The sheets h may support imitation fuel g and an imperforate or perforated silica panel d may be arranged in front of the lower part of the fireback a. The fireback may be formed with an upward extension i inclined forwardly to deflect a greater amount of heat into the room.
