[Class 42 (i)] [Also in Group XI] In the welding of thermoplastic sheets 12, 14 by means of pressure members 17 carrying electrodes 16 between which a high frequency electric field is maintained, the formation of grooves' at the joining edges 13, 15 when the sheets are pressed into one plane, is avoided by disposing the electrodes 16 in recesses which become filled with the softened plastic, the protuberances thus formed being removed from the welded sheets. Joints between two tubes, or between a tube and rod may be similarly formed, and butt joints may be similarly treated. Specification 555,054 is referred to.
