Abstract

555,699. Photographic sensitive materials ; colour photography. KODAK, Ltd. (Eastman Kodak Co.). Aug. 5, 1941, No. 5934/43. Divided out of 555,508. [Class 98 (ii)] Sensitive material comprises several sensitive silver salt emulsion layers between two of which is a filter layer containing a dispersion of unfogged silver iodide absorbing ultra-violet rays strongly but substantially transparent to visible rays. The iodide is in such quantity and of such particle size that the layer transmits not more than 15 per cent (preferably 10 per cent) from 400 to 300mÁ, and not less than 80 per cent from 400 to 700mÁ. The dispersion medium may be gelatin, albumen, casein, a polyvinyl phthalate or polyvinyl acetal resin. The material may be three-layer, for colour photography with red and green sensitive layers below a blue sensitive layer, and may be used in several processes where it is desired to subject only the red sensitive layer to an exposure to ultra-violet light. The silver iodide layer should not be fogged either by light or chemically, and its sensitivity is so small that when the material is exposed to light and processed, the iodide layer will remain undeveloped when the other layers have been fully developed with an ordinary developer. Lippmann-type silver iodide emulsions are stated to be suitable for use as the silver iodide layer, and two examples are given of the preparation of gelatino-silver emulsions, one wholly silver iodide, and the other containing also a trace of silver iodide, and the other containing also a trace of silver bromide. Specifications 500,717 and 505,099, and U.S.A. Specifications 1,905,188 and 2,186,598 are referred to.
