Abstract
555,325. Mixing apparatus. HARTLEY, C. J. Feb. 12, 1942, No. 1865. [Class 86] In an apparatus for mixing solid and liquid materials, particularly slaked lime and water to produce milk of lime, the lime is fed intermittently by hand, or with a slow feed from a hopper o by a rotating worm r into a mixing pan a, and the water through a pipe g into a feed shoot e which extends into the top end of a cylindrical beater g mounted to rotate on a central shaft b. The beater has internal inclined vanes h on its inside walls, and oppositely inclined vanes i on its external walls, while vanes n may be provided on the walls of the pan a to prevent swirl. The lime and water are mixed as they are carried downwards through the beater, and again mixed as they are carried upwards outside the beater, the mixture being anally discharged over a weir j into a pocket k, which may be fitted with a gauze strainer, and then through an outlet pipe m. The feed hopper may be fitted with inclined rotating stirrers s. Specification 555,440, [Group XXX], is referred to.
