Abstract

541,699. Photographic flash-lamps. BRITISH THOMSON-HOUSTON CO., Ltd. June 10, 1940, No. 10075. Convention date, June 9, 1939. Drawings to Specification. [Class 9 (ii)] In a. gas-filled electric flash-lamp, preferably using pure aluminium in the form of fine wire or ribbon as the combustible material, the tungsten or like heating filament is enclosed in a thin coating of magnesium powder and potassium perchlorate mixed with a suitable binder. Zirconium powder may also be embodied, a particular composition described being as follows:- 4 ... 5 per cent. nitrocellulose solution. 5ccs.; potassium perchlorate, 5 grams; zirconium powder, 6.5 grams; magnesium powder 1 to 4 grams, preferably 2.4 grams. Amyl acetate may be used to assist in obtaining a homogeneous mixture and to thin out the same to the desired consistency, into which the filament and adjacent portions of the leading-in wires are dipped. It is also stated that the magnesium powder may be applied as a final coating or after-dip; and aluminiums-magnesium alloys may replace pure aluminium as the combustible material.
