Abstract
536,713. Preparing fuel; materials for making coke. BIESEL, P. April 12, 1940, No. 6638. [Classes 50 and 55 (ii)] A pure coal suitable after coking for electrodes is obtained by treating dressed finely granulated coal of low ash content (e.g. 1 per cent.) with a solution of boiling dilute inorganic acid for example one part each of hydro-fluoric acid and hydrochloric acid and three hundred parts of water. Alternatively with the same proportion of water one part each of fluoric and nitric acids may be used. 100 kilos of coal require 150 litres of the dilute acid, the process being carried out in acid proof tanks, and the liquid being heated and agitated by injecting super-heated steam through a perforated coiled pipe. The treated coal is subsequently washed free from acid.
