Abstract
511,310. Regenerators for coke ovens. KOPPERS CO. May 2, 1938, No. 13079. Convention date, May 7, 1937. [Class 64 (i)] The partition walls 13 between the regenerator chambers 14, 15 of a coke oven 10 are provided with expansion joints 44 traversed by canals 45 containing a sealing medium such as sand or ground firebrick or in some cases a viscous or plastic medium or cement which may be forced into the canals under pressure in which cases any voids or cracks surrounding the joint are also filled up. The sealing medium is introduced into the canals 45 through charging openings 47 in the roof of the oven and openings 46 in the floor of the oven which may be afterwards plugged up. When the regenerators are spaced from the ground, the sealing material may be introduced from below through passages 48.
