[Class 18] In a case for cigarettes, matches, pencils, or other small elongated objects of equal length, of the type in which the objects 13, Fig. 1, are located in one plane and are individually held over part of their length in grooves, compartments or undulations 11 each having a closed extremity A, the extremities being alternately disposed at two different levels, the distance between the two levels is less than the common length of the objects, so that the extremities of the objects project beyond those of adjacent objects and the projecting extremities of alternate objects are separated by a free space. Fig. 1 shows a cigarette case having two parts 10, 14, hinged together. Spring strips 16 hold the cigarettes in place when the case is closed. The parts 14, 10 have flaps 17 and right-angled-section flaps 19 respectively, urged together by springs at their hinges to close the ends of the case. The part 10 may comprise two,sets of grooves placed end to end. In a match-box, Figs. 4 and 7, matches are held in the grooves 50 of a corrugated band 33 by elastic cords 47. The band is secured to a base plate 34 by a hinged cover-plate 35 held closed by a catch 36. Tongues 37 on 35 close alternate ends of the grooves 50 Hinged flaps 38 are secured to 35 by spring buttons 40, 41. Matchstriking abrasive sheets 43 are slid into threesided guides 42 and retained by catches 44 secured to 35 by spring strips. In a modified match-box the lower flap 38 is secured to the back of the plate 34 instead of to the front. The Specification as open to inspection under Sect. 91 describes also the cigarette case shown in Fig. 11 (Cancelled). This subject-matter does not appear in the Specification as accepted.
