[Class 107] A road-paving machine, movable longitudinally along the road, comprises a frame extending over the whole or part of the width of the road and carries means for applying embedding material to the foundation, a screed for levelling the applied material, a template for ensuring the regular and accurate laying of paving stones on the levelled surface, and a device for ramming or pressing the stones into the embedding material. The machine shown in Fig. 1 comprises a frame 1, 3 supported by wheels 2 running on longitudinal rails 23. A hopper 4 carrying embedding material 24, such as cement mortar, is movable on transverse rails 26 near the front of the machine. The material may be fed to the hopper from a mixing device. An adjustable screed 6 is mounted on the hopper and a further adjustable screed 22 is mounted behind the hopper. A manually or mechanically operated conveyer belt 27 is arranged behind the hopper and is adapted to deliver paving stones 8 to workmen standing on a platform 28. The workmen place the stones into the cells 10, Fig. 7, of a frame 9, which frame is suspended by wire ropes 11 passing over rollers 12 and can be raised or lowered. During the laying operation the frame is lowered to rest on the levelled surface of the embedding material, and is then raised to leave the stones correctly positioned as shown. The machine is advanced step by step during the paving operation, and, after each forward movement a ramming or pressing device comprising planks 14, Fig. 3, is brought above the positioned stones. The planks are interconnected by girders 29 and members 30, and carry end plates which are guided for vertical movement in frames 16. The plates carry rollers 17 which are movable on the inclined surfaces 21 of a slide 18. By moving the slide backwards and forwards, by means of a hand wheel 20, the ramming planks are raised and lowered to effect the ramming or pressing of the paving blocks.
