Abstract
499,325. Dough - balling machines; variable-throw cranks. CHRISTIANSEN, E., and ERICSSON, C. O. July 22, 1937, No. 20275. [Class 87 (ii)] [Also in Group XXIV] In adjustable crank mechanism for imparting orbital movement to the cups of a dough-balling machine wherein each crank arm 14 is carried on a spindle 5 mounted eccentrically in a rotating head 1 on a driving shaft 9, the head 1 is raised on the shaft 9 to move the crank arm to stop orbital movement whereafter the head 1 and shaft 9 are simultaneously raised to lift the cups, and the head 1 and shaft 9 are simultaneously lowered and on continued downward movement of the head alone the crank arm is moved to give orbital movement to the cups. The cup-carrying frame is mounted on the crank arms. The spindle 5 carries a toothed wheel 6 in gear with teeth 8 on a sleeve 7 which engages helical teeth on the shaft 9. The head 1 is mounted on a sleeve 2 slidable and rotatable in a fixed bearing 3 and is raised and lowered by a cam-actuated lever 10. As the sleeve 2 is raised, there is at first relative axial movement between the sleeve 2 and the rotating shaft 9, so that the sleeve 7, which is keyed in the sleeve 2, is rotated and thus rotates the crank arm 14 to a position over the shaft 9 such that the cup frame ceases to have orbital movement. A flange 13 of a ring 11 on the sleeve 2 engages a shoulder or ring 12 on the shaft 9 to raise the shaft with the sleeve.
