Abstract

497,958. Composite wall board. SANDFORD, J. B., LEFEBURE, V., and IMPERIAL CHEMICAL INDUSTRIES, Ltd. June 30, 1937, No. 18238. [Class 87 (i)] In the manufacture of composite wall board comprising a layer of water-setting cementitious material such as calcium sulphate plaster covered on both sides with relatively thin fibre liners such as pulp board, thick paper or cardboard, the liners are coated prior to contacting with the wet unset plastic with (a) an aqueous mixture of a water-setting cement or binder such as calcium sulphate plaster and a water soluble adhesive such as starch, dextrin, gum, glue, casein or ureaformaldehyde or thiourea-formaldehyde resin syrup, or (b) an aqueous mixture, with or without fillers such as sand or fine asbestos, of a soluble silicate and a substance capable of reacting therewith such as Portland cement, aluminous cement or zinc carbonate. Accelerators such as mineral acids or a catalyst such as phosphoric acid may be added to the resin syrup.
